Can't remember the title???
Please help me remember the title.
It's set in the late 1800's or early 1900's in a New England resort town. A young man is hired as a tutor for the children of a rich family. He uses his common sense and knowledge of human nature to 'cure' some members of the town. In one case, a rich older man hasn't gone out in public for years because he is afraid of incontinence. The healer gives him a bottle of pills and tells him it's an old folk cure - turns out later that the pills are just candy, but the placebo works.
He's mobbed by the people of the town who are seeking a cure from this reluctant healer.
The local doctor gets jeleous of the healer and has him arrested. In court a number of people testify that they were helped and that the healer never charged them any money. The judge dropped the case.
