Slayer

I had a dream about what I think was a movie I once saw, but I cannot remember the name. I only vaguely remember the story line. It centered on two young men who as teenagers develop an intense hatred for each other. The story though focuses on the one male protagonist. As he gets older and has children of his own, his daughter who he loves immensely falls in love at a very young age with the son of his enemy. I believe there is some very heated scenes of the young girl and her slightly older lover. At first, the father tries to keep them apart but as he sees that the daughter is only happy with her boyfriend he becomes more accepting.

Something tragic happens though and the daughter is killed, I believe. And though the boyfriend is not at blame he blames himself and accepts responsibility for a crime he did not commit. The father is at the forefront of bringing the boyfriend to justice and in the end the boy is put to death. It is only at the end or afterward that the father finds out that the boy was not guilty and in fact acted heroically.

I think it might have been a period piece, but I am not sure.
