Question A Psychopathic Kidnapper Maybe?

Hello All

There are certain scenes from a movie that I faintly remember regarding a guy that looked to be in his 30's & was very schizo/paranoid. He eventually kidnapped a younger girl (maybe 18-20 yrs. old) and would have these psycho mood swings for no apparent reason. He made selfish & careless decisions and abused the girl (mentally) by always blaming her for everything that happened bad to him. His family, (especially his father), had given up on him and his constant failures, excuses and empty promises.

As the film progressed, I think there was a point where he was planning on visiting his parents. Seems like he was recruiting the girl as to how he expected her to act once they got to his parents house...saying something like..."When we get inside, You better not embarrass me...Especially in front of my dad! Follow my lead and just don't say anything stupid. You're gonna tell them you love me! Yeah that's it! Tell them you are my fiance and we only stopped by to let them know we are getting married! No...As a matter of fact, Don't say anything! Just shut up until I tell you to say something...No that'll seem suspicious". When his parents answered the door, His father acted very cold towards his presence as if he hated to see him.

What was interesting to me from what I saw of the film was how the script portrayed the male actor as an obviously mentally disturbed sociopathic/psychopathic guy that seemed to ALWAYS be on edge while the young female counterpart came across as shy, homely and calm (perhaps she's scared of him). The advice that she tried to give him was usually good advice but it was his own complexes, selfishness and idiocity that kept catching up with him. Through it all, The young lady continued to tag along with him and at times even came across as liking it . The way the movie was going, I would have sworn the two eventually became a couple in the end but I didn't get to finish it nor did I see it from the beginning. One other small detail is that I recall the guy being very frail looking....mid 30's and down on his luck, short, skinny, wild hair & unkept beard. The girl looks late teens or maybe fresh out of high school, innocent and comes across as she feels sorry for him or maybe kind of likes him but doesn't know why. Lastly, I think the title has a number in it such as "Ladder 51" or something like that. Someone please take a shot it this one.

lol, ladder 51....well you were close, there is a number in the title. The name of that movie is Buffalo 66 and it starts Vincent Gallo (The Singer) and Christina Ricci. The whole premise is that Vincent Gallo's character gets out of prison and kidnaps Christina Ricci's character to impress his parents who think he's a big dissapointment. He wants to convince them he is engaged to her. His also plans to kill some ex-football star who apparantly was responsibile for losing some football game that Gallo's character was betting on and costing him alot of money. He blames him for ruining his life and plans to kill him in the movie. I have to say that this is actually one of the best independent movies I've ever seen. It is very original and very artistic in it's form in many of the scenes and even though the main characters are lacking in any real quality of character they are still immensly interesting in the film. Great film and well worth watchin. Anyway, glad I could help.

I've never seen it but sounds like it may be good and you all seem to have enjoyed it as well. Heard of it before though. The Strange name always stuck in my brain.

Default Yup! That's the movie!

I remember waking up around 3AM one morning and this movie was on. I wanted to stay up and finish it but had to get up for work at 7:00. I never saw it again and had given up remembering the title. I do know however, That I liked what little I saw of it enough to inquire around about it. Now that I know what it is, I'm definately going to buy it.
I would remember this guy's face from anywhere. Thanks a lot for the good info. From all the good posts this has generated, I plan on buying this tonight if I can find it online. I'm pretty sure the stores here probably won't have it.

There is also another movie that I caught early in the morning during a work week that got my attention the same way that this one did called "Body Count". This is not the one that stars Ice-T but another independent (I think) release that stars John Leguizamo, David Caruso & Ving Rhames. In this one, They also wind up either kidnapping a woman or persuading her to go with them on their criminal journey. I think she winds up with all the goods in the end after a lot of killings. John Leguizamo did a wonderful job as did Caruso (whom I never saw in any other role besides CSI Miami). Bad thing about this film is all the prints that I have seen are not domestic and are of other DVD regions.

Again, Thanks for the fast replies regarding "Buffalo 66"

Thumbs up Buffalo 66

Buffalo 66 is in my top 100 movie list.

I used to think that Christina Ricci was pretty hot but not much range as an actress. Until I saw her in this.

I haven't seen Body Count but a quick find on IMDB shows me some interesting people in the movie. Linda Fiorentino is in it. She is always fun. See her in After Hours?

New member to Movie Forums - its cool ....

This is completely off topic but I just thought I would throw this out there, if anyone is into watchin the most underrated movie of all time go watch The Way of The Gun starring Benecio Del Torro, James Caan, Ryan Phillippe, and Juliette Lewis. I think this post reminded me of it because it too is a movie not many people have heard of but is great and it involves the kidnapping of a pregnant woman (Juliette Lewis) for ransom.

Thanks UncleJack... this looks exactly like the kind of movie that interests me. I'm not sure how that one got past me...
