The first was fun and had great TF moments, but 85% of the film was like a bad romantic comedy/sci-fi mixer.
Anyway, that aside, I now know that Bay wanted the name Devastator to stick, defying Hasbro, who already designed the toy and other merchandise with Brawl's name on it.
Man...Michael Bay sure thinks he's all that now, even pissing on the original makers of the toys themselves. But I suppose it's better than nothing. The robots did look good. I just really hope there's more robots in this robot movie next time...and that he listens to Hasbro. And fans. Why doesn't he like listening to fans? Is he so afraid of a couple of helpful suggestions from his audience?

there were people saying that bay was the only guy who could have directed transformers. BAY? Transformers was nothing special. The way some people go on is like he created back to the future, Godfather or braveheart.

I think that it wouldn't make that much of a difference if someone else directed the film, come on, it's Hollywood..IMO.. I think we would pretty much get the same result if someone like Spielberg or J. Cameron directed it.. Any thougts? Btw I enjoyed the film, not because it was all that (story and such..), but cos of the friggin' awsome robots! ..even though it could have been more scenes in the film with, the robots..!

Yes, of course, shame on me for not remembering that on Cybertron TF could already transform to hide/protect themselves.
Damn and I only just watched the whole series recently!

True. Its hard to imagine what others may have done with it, but it would have benifitted the film if someone was directing it that truly loved the characters and story and was a major fan him/herself like Sam Raimi with Spider-man.

I thought the changes that were made were valid. To make the movie just the same as the cartoon was would be crazy. The source material wasn't perfect, it needed reworking. I'm a fan of Bay's. I've liked his movies (except for the Bad Boys movies, but that's more because I can't stand Martin Lawrence).

I'd like to think if Spielberg made it as serious as he did with War Of The Worlds, it would have been ten times better.

Those robots were pretty friggin' cool weren't they and is obviously the best part of it. That kid is always fun to watch too. Very good at over dramatizing in a comedic way.

I used to think that guy was the funniest when he first came on the tube. Now I find him somewhat annoying as well.

TF, above all the changes, needed to be more serious with less slapstick - which no-one can deny there was a lot of.
Plot wise - initially the animated show was pretty solid, only later it became somewhat convoluted and messy.

The clear plot was that Decepticons and Autobots needed energy to continue their war and also revitalise Cybertron. The Autobots went to find more energy, with the Decepticons following them.
They crash land on Earth and immediately begin searching for energy in very different ways. Earth has abundant energy and Megs wants to plunder it, and conquer Earth as well. The Autobots take the diplomatic approach and vow to defend any world from Decepticon harm - including their adopted home Earth.
Thats pretty comprehensive plotting that was thrown away for, well, a 'cube'.
The origins could have been layed out later, instead of introducing it as a mysterious cube, which raises more questions.
I'd have preferred a solid approach to the original story rather than completely reinventing it. :D
