I remember buying this comic (12 issues) when it came out. The movie couldnt play out as dramatically as the comic because comics NEVER went to the lengths Watchmen did - In so much a serious tone at least.
Rorschach is key. There has to be a performance that scares you - Period. LOL! Watch the movie tank, and make only 3 million!
With the direct from page to screen apporoach theyre taking in the direction I feel this movie will hit big like Sin City!

I have never heard of this comic before. The movie appears to look ok so long as they stick with the serious tone.
But that guy looks hilarious walking around in the middle of the night with a sack over his head. How can anyone not think that as a weird thing to do.
What's his beef anyways?

Thats Rorschach. His mask is a rorschach test. He's like the Punisher (cause he maims, and kills), and Batman cause he's a detective. He's scares criminals to where they literally wet themselves in terror, but he's a normal man that's clinically insane. The catch to all this is he's a superhero.
Alan Moore who wrote created The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and that horribly adapted Hughes Brothers version of Jack The Ripper wtote The Watchmen. Its what life would really be like in the 60s IF superheroes truly did exist. No pulling of the punches that theres no Marvel or DC tone to the story. Watchmen is surprisingly brutal, and realistic. Zack Snyder (300, Dawn Of The Dead) is directing, and Im expecting a great film.

There i two things i have to wonder about this film. First off how will they incorperate the in between chapter suff ( like the original nite-owls autobio.) and The comic book about the guy on the island. And secondly i wonder if Rorschach's mask will constantly change shape like it did in the comic. For such a great comic book i hope it ends up working as a film.

FANTASTIC ... thought that I may have been the only one to be diligently checking out the Watchmen site for updates.
Here is link for those interested WatchmenComicMovie.com it's full of information about the novel as well as the film project.
The proposed cast list looks interesting ... especially Matt Frewer, who is to play Edward Jacobi (Moloch the Mystic). He is famous for his role as "Max Headroom" and also I believe the villain in "Who framed Roger Rabbit"
I am looking forward to seeing this adaption and from reading various sites I believe that it will follow closely the graphic novel. However saying this, I'm sure that there will be inevitable plot holes and divergences from the source material. I am glad that it will be set in the date originally set and not in contemporary times as was "V for Vendetta". I'm also hoping that the 'costumed heroes' will all retain their various querks and that it will not be degraded into a superficial super hero dramatised comic.
Allan Moore who wrote the book has distanced himself from the project, however Dave Gibbons who illustrated seems to have alot of input. which implies that the movie will retain the darkness.
If made as they have hinted, it will probably not be a box office success, however I know I will see it and probably more than once
Re: Rorschach's mask ... they are working on computer graphics which will map the actor's face and incorporate this into a maoving mask which will possibly also show specific emotions at the time, this last bit I'm not sure I like because for me I enjoyed the randomness of the mask. In "V for Vendetta", Hugo Weaving managed to portray emotion with body language alone.
Re: back story filler in the novel ... I think that there will be alot of flash back stuff and I also read somewhere that the 'Pirate' story will be filmed, whether it is incorporated in the movie or to be added as a extra in the DVD remains to be seen.
