We've been hearing a lot about this over the past few weeks and now it's official, David R. Ellis is returning to the Destination franchise as he'll go behind the camera for FD4 which will be shot in 3-D. Final Destination 3 was planned to be a 3-D project but it was cancelled when costs appeared too high, but now 3-D has become easier to accomplish giving us fans what we wanted to see in the last film. FD3 was New Line Cinemas highest grossing film of 2006. Read on for details on New Line's latest collision with Death.
David R. Ellis is coming back to New Line for more death, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The director has signed to direct and develop "Final Destination 4," the latest installment of New Line's popular horror series, which the studio plans to shoot in 3-D.
The premise of the series is that even if you cheat death once, a force that is death itself will stalk you until it finishes what is started, usually in a gruesome fashion. While plot details for "FD4" are being kept under wraps, the movie will stand alone: It will feature new teens facing new forms of death.
The script was written by Eric Bress, who co-wrote "Final Destination 2."
Ellis directed the second installment, which was praised for its elaborately orchestrated killings.
New Line's Richard Brener and Walter Hamada are overseeing the project, which has no start date.
The "Final Destination" films have been solid performers for New Line since they debuted in 2000. The first film grossed $53.3 million, the 2003 sequel made $46.5 million and the third, released in 2006, collected $54 million. The movies usually are made for at least half that and do well on home video.
Ellis' credits include "Cellular" and "Snakes on a Plane" for New Line. He also is known for his second unit directing, having worked on such films as "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" and "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." He is in post on the thriller "Asylum" for Hide Park.

Wait, when you say 3D do you mean it's going to be CG or it's gonna be one of those 3D glasses dealies?
If the latter...bring it on.

I loved the first one, the second one was pretty good, and the third one was okay, but I was hoping for some sort of conclusion by the end of the third one, I was dissapointed. I hope that they find a way to stop the cycle of elaborate deaths in the end of the fourth one.

I agree with Unclejack in that I want a conclusion to this series.
Personally I loved all 3 and this 3D deal may be a good change seeing I was just talking about 3D films with Ford yesterday. They just better have plenty of 3D moments cause it would for sure suck if they only throw a few in there for a 2 hour movie. I remember them doing that a long time ago for t.v. I'd get all hyped and say "oh boy, this should be cool' but when it came time for the movie, it was below spectacular as not many moments to feel the thrill and with a headache to boot from wearing those glasses, it was something I'd rather have bypassed.

I am not surprised that they plan to go for the 4th movie. The last one has been a financial success, overpassing the first two FD films.

Really? I never would have thought that. Are you talking world wide or National? I was certain others would be getting tired of this series.
