I'm a more conventional viewer, I really don't get into anything but the more serious content. I see anime films and shows no differently than live action, I often question those that pass up a great film on the grounds that they '...can't watch it cos its a cartoon...cartoons are for kids...' - that really annoys me. Its
animation, but not a
cartoon.
Animation is only just starting to permeate as a srious film medium in the west beyond anime fans - Beowulf is the most recent attempt by Hollywood.
Most people aren't ready to accept animation as a mature feature medium.
Thats fine, but I pity them for it!
Anime Films:
Ghost In The Shell
Spriggan
Patlabor
Patlabor 2
Blood: The Last Vampire
Anime Series:
Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Initial D
Robotech (Macross, Southern Cross & Mospeada in Japan)
Abenobashi - one of the very few anime comedies I enjoy, simply for its eccentricity.
Samurai Pizza Cats - as above. The show was, like Robotech, so much more different and wacky than the quite standard and repetitive american junk at the time.
