Default Rescue Me

Are there any other fans of the show out there? I love the sarcastic, offbeat humor and the gripping drama. Great show.

Never heard of it. I'm assuming this is the first season Claire?

Sure I'll talk about one of the best shows on television with you, I own the first 3 seasons, I wish they were longer btw. But oh well. Claire have you ever seen Dennis Leary's first show The Job? He had a lot of the same people involved with that one as Rescue Me, its worth getting if you haven't seen it yet. Its only one season so its not very expensive or anything.

I rented the whole season of The Job a couple of years ago. Great show and funny. My favorite episode was the one where the guys discovered a woman doing nude yoga with her curtains open but a large piece of furniture obscured their view. They dressed up as janitors and knocked on her door saying they needed to move it because it was blocking a vent. Hilarious.

I own all 3 seasons of Rescue Me also. I'm waiting for Season 4 to come out on DVD (which is usually about May or June after the season is over).

I find all the characters on the show interesting, especially the fire fighters. I think that Leary and Tolan (the writers as you probably know) have some issues with women as they have made all of them really nasty and deceitful, especially Sheila, Janet and the woman whose name Tommy couldn't remember who started a fire in his house.

I guess it's not televised in Canada if you've never heard of it. It's been on for 4 seasons. It's a show about fire fighters, their lives, relationships, etc. The humor tends to be biting and sarcastic, which is a trademark of Denis Leary. It kind of matches my sense of humor (which I have to censor alot). There have been some real tragedies in the 3 seasons I've seen, but it's not overly sentinmentalized (is that a word?). If you have a chance just to rent the first disc of the first season, watch it and see if you like it. I think it's the best television show ever.

Ah man, that was too funny! yeah I think the world just wasn't ready for his humor to be so mainstream at that time, but after 9/11 when he changed from Cop to Firefighter it just worked, mostly I feel because he's saying a lot of things that others would say if they were given a chance but don't have their own TV show to say it on.

Yeah maybe, I think its more likely they just really are that screwed up you know? Tommy's whole family are drunks and so is most of the guys at the firehouse. Plus the majority of them are Irish, and I think if we had an Irishman here on this forum they might tell us that they're portrayal on the show is pretty accurate. I mean when you think about it who doesn't have issues? Theirs are just out there for us to see.

Hmm, no it most likely is playing here. I just haven't been that much of a T.V. guy as I used to be. Even the few series out there I watch on the tube now I end up getting them off my brother to catch up.

Maybe I'll download the first one.
No shame in that seeing it's on the t.v. anyways.

Also, Leary doesn't care about offending people. That's the reason the humor works so well. Don't know if you knew, but before 9/11, 6 firefighters were killed in his hometown of Worcester MA, including his cousin. He founded the Leary Firefighters' Foundation charity.

I grew up in a city by the name of South Boston, MA actually not that far from Worcester. It was 99% Irish Catholic (I'm not Irish). The big celebration in Southie is St. Patrick's day. Everything is closed in town except for the bars. I'd say the portrayal is pretty accurate.

I know what you mean. I watch Family Guy when I eat dinner and don't watch any of the prime time crap. I especially hate reality shows which include American Idol and that Dancing With The Stars garbage. Barf... double barf
