I agree, and it works well. I'm glad he has been given the opportunity to continue this show, at first when I started on the first season I thought for sure it would maybe only last one season but I'm very happy it has made it for a couple of years. Thank god for cable! This show would not fly on regular TV. It's just so good but it definitely has a very certain type of audience but that's fine with me as long as it stays on the air. And I didn't know that about his cousin, I wonder if that may have spurred him on to try out this show and do it with Firefighters this time.

I grew up in a city by the name of South Boston, MA actually not that far from Worcester. It was 99% Irish Catholic (I'm not Irish). The big celebration in Southie is St. Patrick's day. Everything is closed in town except for the bars. I'd say the portrayal is pretty accurate.
I bet it is, I also really like the way he deals with his alcohol problems as well, I'm in recovery so I can relate and the absolute insanity that he is dealing with is extremely accurate.

Family guy is one of the shows I'll watch if I have time. The new episode just got over actually.

Give it a look, you might get into it.
Well I did download one episode but it happened to be season 4 ep. 1.
I couldn't find any prior to that though unfortunately.

I'm half Irish and Catholic but I've never been around full fledged Irish who celebrate that day like they do there. Boston is famous for that.

Yeah, and I forgot to mention the parade.

I agree, don't think it would be on regular television even if the language and the rest were censored, but I think in the seasons it's been on, it's definitely developed a loyal following. The first show of the 2nd season, after Janet had left with the kids was one of my least favorite shows. When Tommy met with his brother and cousin (?) with help trying to find them - Luckily the 2nd episode was better and it went back to being great. Considering that Tommy was talking to his dead cousin for awhile there, I think there was a definite influence.

It must be really difficult to be an alcoholic. Booze is everywhere and also legal so it's impossible to avoid (unlike illegal drugs and such) so it must be a real challenge (I'm sure that's an understatement).

Well at times it can be, it certainly helps if you're like me and you actually want to quit. Tommy's main problem is he has never surrendered and tried to actually work the program. But it makes for good television, and it gives regular people a good look at what that disease is all about.

Don't you think that the fact that Tommy was able to avoid drinking when Connor was killed and Janet left him because of it was an accomplishment on his part?

Of course, I'm not one of those hard line assholes in the program that thinks you need to quit drinking and apply for Sainthood. Everyday you go without drinking is a big deal. It wasn't just an accomplishment it was a miracle he didn't drink.

I agree. I was sure that he was going to drink again. What season did you enjoy the most?
