Actually, they even said something like that in the commentary for the DVD. I think it was Kurt talking in that.

I'm still not convinced ... after all the mayhem and distruction to just await the inevitable popsiclisation, and this when all of the humans knew that this would not stop the alien menace is somewhat disingenuous (for me at least)

Even if they were both human, surely you wouldn't take the risk.
