okay here's another one. These three so far are the ones from my book, A Day Well Spent. I bet someone will guess this one soon, but it's possible no one will guess the originally posted riddle.
He inherits his master's title
Upon the battle field
Guess the masters title
And the servant has to yield,
And perchance to guess the master
And make the master kneel
Then better guess the battle
Or guess the battle field
Beneath a flag that doesn't waver,
A tree that's slain might well bear fruit,
And though the flag might not find favor,
There's little failure of salute,
A witch ensures the flag's repute,
And keeps a wicked garden,
The branches, one and all astute,
Are tangled begging pardon,
And though the garden might be green,
You've never seen one thinner,
It's branches white will turn to snow,
The witch's hand will winter
.....the garden and the witch and the branches are metaphors, and if one were guessed the others would be guessed quickly.
