I can honestly say after seeing the two, I found that 'Omega Man' was superior to 'I Am Legend'. It was a better film and I enjoyed it much more.
That said, its like comparing the original 'Gone In 60 Seconds' to the new version, they are really two completely different movies and reflect different eras, but with a common idea.
Legend was a decent apocalyptic story which looked good and was paced nicely, though still dragged at times. It reminded me, for some reason, of Doragon heddo (2003) .
The 'others' I didn't really like. Too 'familiar' with the standard type of vampire creatures we see way too often. They also looked a bit 'unreal' at times, wether it was the effects or their framing that had that effect in some scenes I don't know. 5/10

I was disappointed by it ... particularly the ending ... WTF ... they should have cut the final scene !!!

I also liked Omega Man and the original movietisment of the the novel ... The Last Man on Earth starring Vincent Price.

I haven't seen the Price film yet. It was on TV a few days ago, but I missed it. I'm still looking for it in the video store. Are they still video stores or should we now call them DVD stores or even media kiosks as they have games and music as well these days?

I think I Am Legend was a good film. I didn't like the ending though, Robert Neville shouldn't have died. Thank God for the alternate ending. I also welcome the fact that the setting of I Am Legend was transferred to New York. And Will Smith played the role perfectly, i honestly couldn't picture Arnold Schwarzenegger to pull it off as well as Will did.

Neville dying was a great ending, self sacrifice for the greater good. Not enough films go that way anymore, but thats good as too much of it would be just that, too much and become cliche.
Heston dying in the pose of a crusifiction was a master stroke in 'Omega Man' as he signalled the new rise of humanity after its sin. He died for humanity's sin.

You have to remember that if Ridley made the film with Arnold, he would have geared it to suit Arnie's presence and style and it may have worked fantastic.
If it was made in the style and vein of 'End Of Days' or 'Collateral Damage', Scott and Schwarzenegger could well have had a hit.
