I think we cannot seperate a brilliant acting with a successful movie.

Here is my list:
- Tom Hank (Philadelphia)
- Robin Williams (Mrs. Doubtfire)
- Tom Cruise (Vanilla Sky)
- Nicholas Cage (Face Off, City of Angels)
- Nicole Kidman (The Others)

Nick Cage in Leaving Las Vegas. I left the theatre so not wanting to have a drink it wasnt even funny.

Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs. the first time I saw this movie was the very first night I had moved out on my own in my own apartment. I hadnt even seen a commercial for the film, and saw it out of boredom. I was very.....aware would you say upon leaving the movie.

Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump. Arguably the best movie ever made.

Jim Carrey in The Truman Show....woulda. I wish Carrey had waited 10 yrs before doing this work because he wouldve been toned down some, and itd been perfect. Kinda like how Speilberg held on to Schindlers List to mature as a director. Ace Ventura was SO incredibly ridiculous you didnt know what the hell this guy was gonna do next. That is magic.

Russel Crowe in Gladiator. Our Kirk Douglas in Spartacus.

Brad Pitt in Legends of the Fall. Pitt woulda been the next James Dean from this if he hadnt burnt himself out on pot. You can see the decline in his expressive capabilities between then and now. Poor Brad Pitt.

Al Pacino in Carlitos Way. I know Penn was good in it, but this was a one man show! Not his best work or movie, but a one man show indeed.

I HATE to put this down, but Edward Norton in American History X showed what raw acting power with charisma equals a chilling yet absorbing mix. The fact I was paying attn to his character made me question my own beliefs in racism, but I aint a bigot, and I sure nuff aint getting the soundtrack!

Leonardo DeCaprio in Titanic. So sorry folks, but Leo saved Camerons career - period. It was all those girls going to see the movie 25 times that made this a hit. His best acting was in other works though.

Ray Liotta in Narc. Im a huge GoodFellas fan, but this was the movie that sold me on him as an actor. Jason Patrick was very strong too.

There are more....

I like Tom Hanks portrayal of the character of Forrest Gump... It was very realistic and touchy... He really gave justice to the role... He's the best!
