How much do directors make?

We know how much actors make - the most famous ones from 10 to 40 million per film.

However, this got me thinking - how much do directors make? The real top ones. IMHO, the director is more important than the actors (I'd rather have a great director and lousy actors than a lousy director and great actors - I'm going to make a thread on this in a second actually!).

So if anyone has any idea how much some of the better directors make per film, I'd certainly be interested...

Tough question to answer - every director's salary is dependent on the production and its budget, as well as the director's previous track record. A lot of directors also tie their payoff to how well the film does, for instance taking 1% of overall box office revenue.

Not that that's a thorough answer, but hope it helps in some way.
