Default Rutger Hauer - Bad Guy or Good Guy?

So, after hearing Rutger's comments on a DVD last night about his choice of roles, I decided to see what the general audience like him as the most - a villain ('Blade Runner', 'The Hitcher') or a hero ('Ladyhawke', 'Blind Fury').
Its a hard choice for me, but he has a strange edge that makes villains he plays seem very uncomfortable to watch, quirky and strange like the Hitcher.
He also seems to contribute and inject more personal emotion into a villain role.

Director's Robert Harmon (Hitcher) and Ridley Scott (Blade Runner) are impressed with his ability in an abnormal or unconventional villain role as he brings a lot of effective ad-libs as well as physical quirks.
Director Richard Donner (Ladyhawke), prefers Hauer's suave, noble, aryan hero portrayals with the emotion and fun he injects.
He also won a Golden Globe for his performance in 'Escape From Sobibor', a TV production about an escape from a concentration camp during WW2.

It was a hard vote ... but went with Villain, primarily due to Blade Runner and Sin City being on my personal favourite list.

Hard to beat 'Blade Runner', but he is so creepy in 'The Hitcher' its almost on equal ground.
