John Carpenter's best or worst
Since you asked Escape I'll list some of my personal faves, I'm afraid though Halloween isn't on that list, it's somewhere in the middle.
Dark Star: one of his best bad films imo.
The Thing: of course!
Starman: IMO arguably his best film.
Big trouble in little China: also quite good!
In the Mouth of Madness: I've always liked this one.
Escape from New York: who didn't love this as a child of the 80's.
Escape From L.A: only cos Snake was in it.
They Live: mostly because Rowdy Roddy Piper was in it.
As for the rest I'm just so-so on, although I will put these a good deal above the rest.
Halloween
Halloween 2
Vampires
Now these on the other hand are almost unwatchable and that's really hard for me to say since I'll watch almost anything.
Ghosts of Mars Bleck!
Prince of Darkness
Christine There's a much better movie made earlier called The Car
The Fog
And weirdly enough its actually a pretty short list of his films that I haven't seen yet, what does that say about me I wonder?
Assault On Precinct 13
Memoirs of an Invisible Man
Village of The Damned actually saw about 5 minutes of this on the sci-fi channel and turnd it off. So I may watch this some day.

I've to admit I've only seen The Thing, many years ago.
I thought it was good though! Of what I can remember of it..

The Best: The Thing
The Worst: Escape from L.A.
Yeah, anything of his from 90's and on has pretty much sucked, but he ruined Snake with that sequel.

Ok cool. Still shocked about the Halloween though heheh.

Haven't seen it but since you rate it your number one for his bad films, I'm very interested in seeing it now. I usually jot down things in a saved notepad on my desktop for future buys so will do that with this one.

Man I really really enjoyed Christine. Not sure if a remake will out-do it but I'd still give it a try. I'm not fussy on remakes and even though I'm not thinking they will one up the original, if it's still a fun film, then that's all I ask for. I'll jot 'The Car' down too.

Here are in order my favorites to my least fav's of all his movies I've seen.
1. Halloween (1978) (The best Horror film I have ever watched to date)
2. Halloween 2 (1981)
3. The Thing (1982) (Beautifully well done. Saw this when I was 11 or so and loved it)
4. Starman (1984) ( I thought Jeff Bridges played the part perfectly)
5. Christine (1983)
6. The Fog (1980)
7. They Live (1988) (A lot of funny one liners and one of the longest one-on-one fights I've seen. Very humorous hehe)
8. Vampires (1998)
9. Big Trouble in Little China (1986)
The only one I have watched of his that I really disliked was Escape From L.A. (1996). It was brutal. I've never seen the first one and heard so many positive comments regarding it, I was surprised as heck in how terrible it ended up being.
Ones I want to see one day:
Dark Star (1974)
Village of The Damned (1995)
In the Mouth of Madness (1995)
Memoirs of an Invisible Man (1992)
Films of his I doubt I ever watch:
Ghosts of Mars (2001) (Looks too weird lol)
Assault On Precinct 13 (1976) (I've seen the remake which I thought was ok but I doubt I'd be interested in this one)

I've seen most of his earlier work, which is terrific - sometimes ahead of its time or themeatically different from anything else at the time.
I've only seen a small selection of his newer work.
Best:
The Thing
Halloween
Big Trouble In Little China
Escape From New York
Village Of The Damned
In The Mouth Of Madness
Starman
Christine
The Fog
Assault On Precinct 13
Worst:
Escape From LA
Vampires
Ghosts Of Mars

Yep, sorry I don't know, that movie has just never really done it for me. I'm more of a Jason/ Freddy guy I guess.

Now you got me confused... I just watched the version from like 1979 or something like that. What's this re-make you keep mentioning? Or is this his re-make of the film in the first place? I know he did a couple of re-makes of his own. Like The Thing or Village of the Damned.

God, are they going to re-make Christine? They'll be lining up around the block for that one I'm sure. That's another one where if I hadn't read the book I probably would enjoy the film a lot more.
I've read most of Stephen King's books and I love most of them. I've never been one of those people that has enjoyed seeing most of his books on the Big screen. There's only a handful that I've really enjoyed, more in the last 10 to 15 years though, Better film makers tackling the projects most likely.
Definitely try to find The Car this isn't based on the novel Christine as far as I know. I'm not sure if it's available on DVD though. I haven't even seen it around in years so it may be hard to find. Now I wanna see it to, I'm gonna have to track this down myself I haven't seen it in years. Uh-oh... to much build up, now it's gonna probably suck!

I agree, one of the few of his that was really ahead of its time. Fantastic special effects and a solid cast.

I agree with you, at times later on into the 90's it seems like he hadn't quite realized that the 80's were over and there was only about a bahzillion other dudes cranking out bad films too, so he was no longer a novelty.

Hmmm, yeah I asked you about that and didn't you say it wasn't the one from my pic game? My pic game was the original version so assumed you had the remake. The remake is shit. I see it for like 4 or 5 bucks now and it's main stars are Clark from 'Smallville' and some chick I never saw before. The thing I remember most from that movie was how much better the acting was with the 'extras', compared to the 'stars' of the film. I dunno, it just sucked to be honest.

I was really referring to 'The Car' film you wanted me to check out when I said that but yeah, rumors say an actual 'Christine' remake is in the works. It may be a made for t.v. show though. Disturbia co-writer Christopher Landon was flirting with the project but that was awhile back so not sure what's happening with it now or if he's still interested in it.

Ohh I've been just reminded of another Steven King book put to film that I hated. It is called 'Desperation' and was made for t.v. Started out very interesting but turned to crap. Just got silly and lost it's steam around the 3/4 mark.

Ok seriously, I put it as number two because I kind of see it as a close continuation as the first one. I always join them both together but in all honesty, it would be a lot further down my list if I thought of it being on it's own and not a 4 hour movie joined with Halloween.

lol, how about the part where he leans in close to her after she was crying and all upset about feeling she was carjacked and taken hostage and he asks her.... "Define Shit". Loved that scene. Looked like he was going to be all sympathetic to her situation and he was more curious on what that word meant since she just said it to him in her little rant.

Yeah but remember just because it's down there, doesn't mean it's all that bad. For me, all of these movies are extremely close, entertainment wise with the other.

Ah, ok, now I know which one you're talking about. That had Tom Welling and The sister From LOST in it right? Anyway I haven't seen that and most likely won't. I just got The original version from the pawn shop last weekend. So that's why I was referring to your movie still game cos I recognized the demon behind the cross grab you posted during the game.

Yeah I saw it once years ago and I don't remember thinking that it was to bad I think they made it in like the 50's or something.
